On the evening of March 21, 2026, the "6ix" will shine with purpose. We invite all Canadians to look toward the Toronto horizon as the CN Tower—the crown jewel of our skyline—is transformed into a "positive beacon" of radiant blue and yellow.
This powerful visual display marks World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). By bathing the sky in these symbolic colours, Ontario sends a resonant message: even in the quietest moments, our community remains a place of light, hope, and unwavering belonging. This celebration is rooted in a history of advocacy, following the formal passing of the Ontario Down Syndrome Day Act on June 9, 2016.
This year’s global theme, "Together Against Loneliness," brings a renewed sense of urgency to our mission. It is a clarion call to ensure that every individual with Down syndrome is meaningfully included and deeply connected within our schools, our workplaces, and our neighborhoods. Inclusion is the antidote to isolation.
The Down Syndrome Foundation Canada continues to bridge the gap between awareness and tangible impact. By providing life-changing resources and essential infrastructure, the Foundation ensures that the momentum of WDSD translates into year-round support.
Key initiatives driving this mission in 2026 include:
HELP321.ca: A dedicated, frontline helpline providing immediate access to community-based resources. It ensures that no family or individual has to navigate their journey in isolation.
SkillsDevelopment.ca: A groundbreaking skilled trades training program. In partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (SDF), this initiative empowers individuals with Down syndrome to gain high-demand, tangible skills for the modern workforce.
The DOWN SYNDROME App: A first-of-its-kind mobile platform. This digital hub provides direct access to HELP321 services, real-time event notifications, and a comprehensive suite of resource tools at your fingertips.
