On the night of March 21, the Toronto skyline wasn't just bright—it was meaningful. We want to extend a massive thank you to everyone in our community who came together, shared a memorable moment, or took a moment to reflect as the CN Tower was bathed in brilliant blue and yellow.
It was more than just a light show; it was a towering "positive beacon" of our province's commitment to inclusion, diversity, and human rights.
The date March 21 (3/21) represents the unique triplication of the 21st chromosome. This year’s global theme, "Together Against Loneliness," brought a renewed urgency to our mission. It served as a call to action to ensure every individual is meaningfully connected within our schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods.
A highlight for the day was an inspiring interview with our Founder, who shared a powerful message of awareness and celebration across the country. During the CP24 segment, they reflected on how far the community has come since the Ontario Down Syndrome Day Act was passed in 2016, emphasizing that while the lights on the tower are temporary, the drive for inclusion we represent must be persistent and permanent. While the lights have dimmed, the work continues. The Down Syndrome Foundation remains at the forefront, ensuring that the "hope and belonging" we felt on the 21st translates into tangible support every day of the year.
Here are the key resources that were highlighted during this year’s event:
HELP321.ca: A dedicated helpline that acts as a bridge to community-based resources for families and individuals.
SkillsDevelopment.ca: A vital partnership with the Ministry of Labour providing skilled trade training, proving that the modern workforce is better when it's inclusive.
The DOWNSYNDROME App: A first-of-its-kind digital hub for real-time notifications and direct access to essential tools.
The 2026 World Down Syndrome Day may be behind us, but the momentum is just starting. Whether you’re an employer looking to diversify your team or a neighbor looking to connect, there is a place for you in this movement.
Thank you for being part of the light.
